Nigerian singer-songwriter, Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, has announced the death of her mother after a sudden battle with a brain tumour.
The 43-year-old musician disclosed the heartbreaking news in a post shared on her Instagram page on Tuesday, where she paid a touching tribute to the woman she described as the pillar of her life.
Naija News reports that in the emotional message, the award-winning singer portrayed her late mother as a deeply loving and supportive figure whose quiet strength shaped her journey.

She wrote, “My reason to be, my queen, my everything.”
According to Asa, the illness came without warning and took her mother away unexpectedly.
“A sudden brain tumor came without warning and took you too soon,” the singer wrote.
In the tribute, Asa painted a heartfelt picture of a mother whose love was gentle but powerful.
She described her as a generous and kind woman who possessed a calm personality yet carried a distinct charm.
“You were extremely shy, and so funny. My biggest fan,” she wrote.
The singer also recalled fond memories of her mother’s unwavering support for her music career.
According to Asa, although her mother was not particularly skilled at singing, she passionately sang along to her daughter’s songs.
“You couldn’t hold a note to save your life, but you sang every one of my songs with your whole heart,” the singer added.
The emotional message ended with a farewell that captured both grief and gratitude.
“Your strength, your love, your spirit will remain with me forever. Rest now, Mum,” she wrote, ending the message with a broken heart and a dove emoji.
Following the announcement, Asa’s post attracted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, colleagues and celebrities across Nigeria and beyond.
