The government has revoked 541 public sector appointments made in the dying days of the previous administration, citing irregularities in the recruitment process.

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained that, the appointments were revoked because they failed to meet the Public Services Management Act (PASMAC) and did not comply with established procedures.

The revoked appointments were made after December 7, 2024, and breached procedures and directives issued during the transition period. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the decision was not politically motivated but aimed to uphold due process and ensure accountability.

According to him, the committee set up by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah to review the appointments, found that, some institutions had already revoked 879 appointments on their own which exceeds the 541.

Kwakye Ofosu explained that the committee’s consideration for vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, gave clemency to such groups thereby bringing the total number of the appointments revoked to 541 .

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series today, March 3, Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained that “the decision was not based on a wait and see attitude”, emphazizing that it was done without malice or ill-feeling towards anyone.

He further stressed that, the previous government was fully aware that, the basic requirements were not met in the cases and so went ahead to sanction them. He added that, they completely disregarded the incoming administration’s request to be on the same page and have opportunity to review the processes in order to ensure that, they complied with the laid down rules.
