The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called for urgent and decisive measures to tackle growing indiscipline in schools across the country.

Koomson described the increasing incidents of student misconduct, particularly at the Senior High School level, as deeply troubling and in need of immediate intervention from relevant authorities.

Speaking on Ahotor FM on Saturday, February 28, 2026, he urged stakeholders to adopt firm but balanced responses to cases of student violence.

He stressed that minors involved in violent acts should be processed through the juvenile justice system rather than the mainstream criminal justice system to ensure both accountability and rehabilitation.

His remarks follow a violent clash during an annual inter-schools sporting event in Agona Swedru involving students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School (OSTECH) and Swedru School of Business.

A widely circulated video on social media shows an OSTECH student being severely assaulted.

The victim was subsequently hospitalised and is reported to be in stable condition.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched investigations, while the Ghana Police Service, through its Central Regional Command, has initiated a formal probe.

Authorities have also suspended all inter-school sporting activities in the Central Region until further notice.

Three students have so far been arrested in connection with the assault.

Koomson called on school authorities, teachers, and housemasters to intensify supervision and strengthen preventive measures to curb hooliganism and ensure student safety during school programmes and extracurricular activities.

He emphasised that schools must prioritise discipline, character development, and responsible citizenship alongside academic excellence to prevent young people from drifting into destructive behaviour in later life.
