Obasanjo urges innovation, as Flutterwave reaffirms commitment to Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasised that economic growth in Nigeria hinges on innovative leadership and a strong private sector, stressing that these are crucial drivers for national development. His remarks set the tone for discussions on Nigeria’s economic prospects and global competitiveness at an exclusive business gala in Lagos.

The event, hosted by Africa’s leading payments technology company Flutterwave in partnership with luxury hospitality brand The Delborough, brought together top executives and policymakers from technology, aviation, hospitality, FMCG, insurance, fashion, beauty, and the public sector. The black-tie gala celebrated innovation, leadership, and strategic collaboration while signalling Flutterwave’s deepening commitment to Nigeria’s business ecosystem.

From the red carpet arrival to high-level networking over refreshments, industry leaders, founders, policymakers, and creatives exchanged ideas on scaling Nigerian enterprises globally. The evening was hosted by Mojibade Sosanya, with Flutterwave Founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola delivering a keynote reflecting on the company’s journey and its role as a financial infrastructure partner to Nigeria’s largest businesses.

Dr. Cosmas Maduka, President and CEO of Coscharis Group, lauded the importance of building resilient, innovative businesses and commended Agboola for his visionary leadership, highlighting Flutterwave’s transformative impact on Africa’s fintech sector.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also shared encouraging remarks, urging Flutterwave to continue advancing globally competitive financial infrastructure from Nigeria.

Agboola stated, “Nigeria is home, and it remains one of our most important markets. Our goal is to build deeper relationships with the businesses and leaders driving the economy.
