Big Cheezy
Popular socialite and Chez Amis Restaurant CEO, Belinda, popularly known as Big Cheezy, has registered her displeasure over allegations of her involvement in the controversial Kotoka International Airport (KIA) cocaine bust.
This follows the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC)’s announcement of the arrest of a manufacturing company’s manager for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
Many on social media have pointed out Big Cheezy to be involved in the cocaine saga. However, the socialite has publicly refuted rumours that she is the suspect, sharing evidence to prove her innocence.
In a video posted on her Snapchat page, which has since gone viral, Big Cheezy warned rumour mongers to desist from mentioning her name as the prime suspect of the saga. It was reported that NACOC arrested a senior manager of a manufacturing company for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country, concealed in packaged gari (dried cassava flakes) at Kotoka International Airport.
The suspect, who is in charge of production at the company, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted shipment and to identify other individuals linked to the alleged syndicate. The NACOC has been actively working to combat drug trafficking, with recent seizures including 89.74kg of suspected cocaine at the Swiss Port and a massive 3.3-tonne cocaine shipment worth $350 million.
