Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today commence a two-part thanksgiving programme with prayers at the Kanda National Mosque under the auspices of the National Chief Imam at 12:30 p.m.

The second part will be an interdenominational church service in the auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on February 22, 2026, starting at 11 a.m.

The programmes were contained in a release from the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and dated February 9, 2026, following a successful organisation of countrywide process to select a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general election, held on January 31, 2026.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the victor in the polls, will be present in both the Islamic and Christian thanksgiving programmes.

According to the General Secretary, the thanksgiving service seeks to express the party’s gratitude to God for “a peaceful, credible and historic internal electoral process.”

The event will be held under the theme “Offer to God a Sacrifice of Thanksgiving,” drawn from Psalm 50:14.

The electoral process conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) has been widely praised by party stakeholders with no bones broken, in contrast to predictions of bloodshed by some prophets.

The party said it remains deeply thankful to God for the successful outcome of the exercise.

In attendance at the services besides Dr. Bawumia will be party leadership, Christian and Muslim clergy, current and former Members of Parliament, former ministers, former chief executives and managing directors of state institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as other past government appointees.

The NPP has extended an invitation to its members, supporters, sympathisers and the general public to participate in the thanksgiving services, as the party seeks divine guidance for its leadership and vision for Ghana.
