Vivian, the wife of Nollywood actor, Victor Nwaogu, popularly known as Nkubi, has alleged discrimination within Nigeria’s healthcare system following an insensitive remark made by a medical doctor to her during her pregnancy.
Naija News reports that Vivian made this known during an interview on Pulse One-on-One.
Recounting her experience, Nkubi’s wife said that after undergoing an anomaly scan and presenting the result at the hospital, the doctor, whose name was not mentioned, inquired about a family history of dwarfism.
Vivian disclosed that the conversation took an unexpected turn when the doctor questioned her decision to conceive with her husband rather than opting for a sperm donor or getting her brother-in-law to help.
Nkubi’s wife described the comment as insensitive and discriminatory, suggesting that persons living with dwarfism face prejudice, even within professional healthcare settings.
She said, “When I did my anomaly scan and handed it to the doctor, he was like, ‘Does anyone have a trait of dwarfism in your family?’ Then I said, ‘Yes. It is my husband.
“The doctor asked me why didn’t you go to your brother-in-law or even go outside to get pregnant instead of getting pregnant for your husband, or even get a sperm donor?’ And yes, that is what a doctor told me. They are not giving equal rights in this country at all.”
