Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has appealed to Chinese media institutions to partner with the Ghana Embassy in promoting trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.

Speaking at a press soiree hosted by the Ghana Embassy in Beijing, Ambassador Bonsu said Ghana boasts several business opportunities and Chinese media attention would help attract investors from China to Ghana. He emphasized the embassy’s doors remain wide open to Chinese journalists interested in positively projecting Ghana.

The ambassador highlighted potential growth in various sectors including infrastructure, clean energy, Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), healthcare, minerals processing and agriculture. He urged Chinese investors to see Ghana’s promise not as abstract numbers but as real projects with tangible returns.

Ambassador Bonsu, who previously served as Kumasi Mayor, described Ghana as the safest, friendliest and best country for any investor to do business. He stressed his desire to work toward improving Ghana-China relations through enhanced cooperation in key development sectors.

He positioned Ghana as both a dependable partner and a land of opportunity, noting the country is a stable democracy with a business friendly environment and rich cultural heritage. Democratic foundations, cultural wealth and an open door approach make Ghana a promising destination for investors, according to the ambassador.

The press soiree was attended by prominent media institutions in China and forms part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral relations. Ambassador Bonsu framed journalists as vital allies in shaping Ghana’s economic narrative, underlining the power of storytelling in attracting investment.

The ambassador emphasized Ghana is ready with doors wide open and opportunities tangible across sectors. Through collaboration, media partnership and trade, the country’s growth story can reach audiences and investors across continents.

Ambassador Bonsu presented his credentials to Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on January 16, 2026, alongside 17 other newly appointed ambassadors to China. The ceremony marked the official commencement of his diplomatic mission in the People’s Republic.

The appeal to Chinese media comes as Ghana’s economy shows notable improvements in macroeconomic indicators, including declines in inflation and interest rates alongside a historic appreciation of the cedi against the United States dollar. These gains have been supported by rising commodity prices, especially gold, and fiscal reforms.

Ghana and China have maintained strong bilateral relations, with President John Dramani Mahama conducting a state visit to China in October 2025 that included bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping and participation in the Ghana Investment Forum.

Ambassador Bonsu has been actively working to deepen Ghana-China cooperation since assuming his post, including recent high level meetings with Chinese officials on security partnership and capacity building for Ghana’s law enforcement agencies.
