Aggrieved supporters of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency, have rejected allegations of vote-buying during the party’s parliamentary primaries held on February 7, 2026.

In a video shared by Patriot TV on Monday, February 9, 2026, some supporters described the primaries as peaceful and cautioned the party’s national leadership against actions they say could destabilise the NDC in Nima.

Majority calls for annulment of Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries

“I want to tell all Ghanaians that the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries were peaceful. I want to warn the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, and his people not to create any problems for Nima and also not to create any problem for the NDC in Nima,” he remarked.

He argued that giving gifts to delegates during elections is not new in Ghanaian politics and urged the party leadership to refrain from interfering in the matter.

“Fifi Kwetey should know that giving gifts to delegates during elections is not new in Ghana, so don’t meddle in this issue. Don’t collapse the party by your actions,” he said.

“We are one big family in Nima, we don’t want any problems, so don’t try to bring any problem,” another supporter stated.

The comments follow widespread reports of alleged vote-buying and voter inducement during the primaries.

On February 8, 2026, the Majority Caucus in Parliament called for the immediate cancellation of the primaries.

In a statement signed by Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, the Caucus said it had become aware of “widely circulated allegations of vote-buying” surrounding the just-ended election.

“The Members of the Majority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament have become aware of the widely circulated allegations of vote-buying in the just concluded NDC parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency,” the statement said.

It condemned the alleged misconduct, noting that it runs contrary to the party’s commitment to political reform and ethical governance.

“The Caucus wishes to strongly condemn these developments against the background of the agenda to reset the politics of this country,” it stated.

After what it described as extensive deliberations, the Majority Caucus said it had resolved to formally communicate its position to the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee.

Among its key demands was the immediate annulment of the primaries.

“That the primaries of the NDC organised in the Ayawaso East Constituency be annulled immediately,” the statement read.

The Caucus also called for sanctions against any aspirant found culpable.

“That any candidate who participated in the said primaries and has been established to have engaged in this unethical conduct be banned from participating in the subsequent primaries after annulment of the election,” it added.

The Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to restoring integrity to Ghana’s democratic process.

Meanwhile, the NDC has tasked a three-member committee to investigate the allegations of inducement and vote-buying. The committee has been given up to Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to submit its findings.
