The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers following an intelligence-led patrol operation at Dzorwulu in Accra.

The suspects have been identified as Stephen Gletsu, 37, who was riding the motorbike, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20, the pillion rider.

A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region, said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, while a police patrol team on a service motorbike was conducting a routine patrol.

It said the suspects were both dressed in all-black attire and wore black helmets while riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike. The pillion rider was observed wielding a cutlass.

According to the statement, upon noticing the police, the suspects sped off, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, warning shots were fired, causing the suspects to lose control of the motorbike and fall near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission.

The statement said the suspects attempted to flee on foot but were traced and arrested by the patrol team. A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of several items, including one Infinix mobile phone, one iPhone 12 Pro, one Samsung A21, one iPhone 15 Pro, one iPhone 13, one Infinix smartphone (X6528), one Infinix feature phone, one Itel feature phone, one Nokia feature phone, a necklace, cash in the sum of GH¢2,690, and two US dollars.

The suspects sustained varying degrees of injuries during the arrest and were sent to the Police Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to committing the robbery and confessed to having robbed several unsuspecting victims within the Accra Metropolis.

The police said statements had been obtained from several victims who identified both the suspects and their stolen mobile phones. The victims narrated how the suspects attacked them with a machete and made away with their mobile phones, money, and other valuables.

The suspects have been remanded into police custody to assist with investigations, while further investigations led to the arrest of four additional accomplices, who are currently assisting the police.

The Accra Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to combating street robbery and other criminal activities within the metropolis.
