A student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH) is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed during disturbances linked to the ongoing Eastern Regional Inter-Schools Sports Festival in Koforidua.

The victim, identified as Jerome Appiah, was reportedly attacked by some Form Two students of New Juaben Senior High School while he was eating waakye on his way back to campus.

He is said to have suffered a deep machete wound to the shoulder and lost a significant amount of blood.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Headmaster of Koforidua SECTECH, Emmanuel Frimpong Benjabeng, together with members of staff, hurried to the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre the main venue for the inter-schools sports festival to calm tensions and prevent any retaliatory attacks by angry students.

A report by citinewsroom.com said.

Benjabeng was attending a meeting with the New Juaben South Municipal Education Director, Mustapha Haruna Appiah, when reports of renewed disturbances reached him.

He immediately cut short the meeting after learning that a teacher from SECTECH had also been injured.

The teacher, identified as Henry Kudiabor, reportedly sustained a head injury after being hit by a flying stone during clashes involving students of Nsutam Senior High Technical School, who were allegedly throwing stones in the area.

Expressing concern over the incident, the New Juaben South Municipal Education Director, Mustapha Haruna Appiah, condemned the violence and called on the police and event organisers to carry out a thorough investigation.

He also urged authorities to tighten security at the sports festival to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of students, teachers and spectators.

“We strongly condemn this act of violence and call on the police and event organisers to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Security at the sports festival must be tightened to prevent any further attacks and to ensure the safety of students, teachers and spectators,” Mustapha Haruna Appiah said.
