Residents of communities affected by the Lithium Mining project in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region are threatening to demonstrate against the firm conducting the exploration- Atlantic Lithium Mining Company over delayed compensations.
According to the residents their personal projects in Abonko, Krofu, Abonko Kulem, Krofu Hospital Area, Krampakrom and Ewoyaa have been affected by the project.
While several structures have been damaged by the company, several acres of farmlands have also been taken over, heavily affecting livelihoods.
“For two years, Atlantic Mining Company has prevented us from continuing our developments. Our structures and materials on site are damaged. Our lives have been placed on indefinite hold,” Frank Acquah, secretary of the affected group stated.

According to the group no compensation has been paid despite repeated efforts. They cited that situation as a clear violation of Article 20 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana which guarantees prompt payment of fair and adequate compensation when property rights are affected.
The affected residents are therefore calling on central government, Parliament and other stakeholders for a prompt intervention.
They threatened to launch a series of demonstrations against the mining company, return to the sites to resume work, and demand compensation for the time lost and the damage to their properties.
