Ho (V/R), March 16, GNA – Students have been urged to embrace innovation, technology and mentorship as essential tools for building successful careers in a rapidly evolving world.

Madam Mercy Dawn Akude, the General Manager for Commercial Operations at TeceL Ghana Engineers and a parent, made the call during a career education fair engagement with students at the Sonrise Christian High school at Ho.

She shared her professional journey, to encourage students to remain open to opportunities and not limit themselves in choosing career paths.

Madam Akude explained that although she trained as an engineer, her career had evolved into business and commercial leadership due to her willingness to explore new opportunities.

“I started as an engineer after studying science and mathematics through my O-Level and A-Level education and later pursued engineering at the university,” she said.

She noted that her professional career began in the telecommunications sector, working with Ghana Telecom, which later transitioned to Vodafone Ghana and subsequently Telecel Ghana.

She said she spent about ten years working in technical roles involving contracts and project management, before transitioning into commercial operations after receiving guidance from a mentor.

Madam Akude told the students that career growth often required courage to try new fields, stressing that learning and adaptability were crucial in today’s technology-driven world.

She explained that modern businesses were increasingly relying on technologies such as artificial intelligence, chatbots and robotic process automation to improve efficiency and customer service.

“Technology is helping organisations solve problems faster, improve customer experience and manage large teams effectively,” she said.

Madam Akude also highlighted how digital tools such as chatbots and automated call systems were transforming customer support services.

She advised students to pursue their passions, develop problem-solving skills and remain confident in their abilities regardless of the career path they choose.

“There is nothing you cannot achieve if you believe in yourself and remain committed to learning,” she added.

She encouraged the students to explore emerging fields such as robotics, artificial intelligence and digital technologies as they prepare for future careers.
