The Ejura Divisional Council has handed over 450 acre land to government The Ejura Divisional Council has handed over 450 acre land to government

The Ejura Divisional Council, led by the Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, has officially handed over 447.99 acres of land to the Ghana Prisons Service for the construction of officers’ accommodation at the Ejura Camp Prison in the Ashanti Region.

Barima Osei Hwedie II donated the land to the government as part of the Divisional Council’s efforts to support the provision of decent accommodation for officers of the Ghana Prisons Service.

The land was formally handed over to the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service during a sod-cutting ceremony for the project held on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

When completed, the housing project is expected to provide 255 housing units with well-equipped rooms for officers, aimed at improving their living conditions and enhancing effective service delivery.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, expressed profound gratitude to the Ejurahene and the Ejura Divisional Council for the generous allocation of land to the Service.

She also thanked organisations and individuals who have pledged support towards the successful completion of the project.

Baffoe-Bonnie noted that the initiative would go a long way in addressing the accommodation challenges faced by prison officers at the Ejura Camp Prison.

She further appealed to the Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, to consider providing additional land to enable the Ghana Prisons Service to implement an agricultural mechanisation project to support inmate rehabilitation and food sustainability.

For his part, the Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, reiterated his commitment to supporting security agencies in the area, particularly the Ghana Prisons Service.

He noted that the Divisional Council would always open its doors to the Prisons Service for any future development projects.

However, he appealed to the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service to maintain the Ejura Prisons Commander, Superintendent John Kwame Ntumi, citing his dedication and the positive impact of his leadership on security and prison administration in the Ejura area.
