Residents step in to patch deteriorating Adidome roads

Residents of the Adidome Central Electoral Area in the Central Tongu District are set to embark on a communal road patching exercise as concerns mount over deteriorating road conditions within the township.

The initiative follows a formal notification by the Assembly Member for the area, Guggisberg Fiagbenu, to the District Police Commander, citing the increasing number of potholes as a growing safety threat to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

The poor road surface, he noted, has also disrupted the smooth flow of traffic.

According to him, repeated appeals have been made to relevant authorities to address the situation, but the community has opted to take interim action to minimise inconvenience and reduce the risk of accidents while awaiting comprehensive repairs.

The exercise is scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, at 7:00 a.m., and will involve local artisans and volunteers drawn from various parts of the township. In his correspondence, the Assembly Member requested police support to help manage traffic and ensure the orderly execution of the activity.

Residents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed optimism that the intervention would ease transportation challenges faced by commercial drivers, traders and daily commuters, while helping to curb minor accidents linked to the poor state of the roads.

Some stakeholders described the initiative as a practical, community-driven response to a long-standing problem, noting that improved road conditions could also enhance business activities within the township.

Mr Fiagbenu reaffirmed the community’s commitment to working with state agencies and the District Assembly to secure a permanent solution to the road challenges. He stressed that the communal effort was meant to complement, not replace, the responsibility of the appropriate authorities.

The Assembly Member also copied the District Chief Executive in the communication, underscoring the need for sustained engagement and long-term infrastructure upgrading in the area.
