Heath Goldfields has pledged to transform the Bogoso-Prestea Mine into a profitable and sustainable operation that delivers tangible benefits to host communities, seeking to overturn what it describes as a long-standing perception that mining leaves local people worse off.

Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony attended by workers, company executives, traditional leaders and other stakeholders, Managing Director Patrick Appiah Mensah said the new owners are determined to ensure that mining activities translate into development for communities surrounding the mine.

“Our resolve is to change the narrative,” Mensah said, adding that Heath Goldfields aims to demonstrate that Ghanaian-led management can successfully operate and revive the mine while prioritising sustainability and community development.

Mensah expressed gratitude to the company’s owners for entrusting him with leadership of the operation and pledged to deliver results.

He also called on employees to recommit themselves to the mine’s revival, urging them to set aside grievances and work collectively toward restoring profitability, which he said would ultimately benefit the wider Bogoso-Prestea area.

Traditional authorities welcomed the takeover, describing it as a turning point after years of economic hardship following the mine’s closure.

Nana Akwasi Somprey II, Divisional Chief of Bogoso, said communities had endured prolonged despair and appealed to the new management to pursue responsible and inclusive mining practices.

“The people have suffered for too long,” he said, urging Heath Goldfields to ensure that residents see real improvements in livelihoods and infrastructure.

The ceremony was attended by Board Chairman Dr. Kwabena Duffuor Jnr. and other directors of the company.

Amid prayers, praise and worship, workers publicly pledged their support for management’s vision to restore operations at the mine and contribute to the economic development of the area.

The Bogoso-Prestea Mine, once a major employer and economic driver in Ghana’s Western Region, has faced operational challenges in recent years.

Heath Goldfields’ leadership says its renewed focus on productivity, local engagement and responsible mining will mark a new chapter for the historic operation.
