The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has asserted that bribery, one of the major challenges of the Ghana Police Service, is now a thing of the past.

According to him, a civilian who attempts to bribe a police officer in the line of duty does so at his own peril.

He indicated that not only will the officer reject the bribe, but s/her will also shame the person who offered the bribe.

“Today, I assure you, you cannot bribe a policeman anymore. If you attempt to bribe a police man, he will disgrace you,” he said.

IGP Tetteh Yohunu pointed out that the police are now bribe resistance because of measures put in place to ensure they are handsomely rewarded if they perform their duties efficiently.

He said that police officers now prefer “promotion” to any form of inducement.

He stated that his sole aim is to bring the police to its glory days, when it had so much respect from the public.

“We want to be one of the best police in the world, and we are carving that image, which generation upon generation will follow, so that we get our glory back and make everybody in Ghana proud,” he said.
