Court Sacks IGP Usman Alkali Baba

A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, has declared that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, is an illegal occupant of the office he is currently holding.

Justice Fatun Riman, who gave the order, insisted that Baba’s continued stay in office is against the clear provisions of the Police Act, 2020, saying it is “unlawful and unconstitutional”.

The court made the order in its judgment in a suit marked FHC/AKW/CS/58/2023, filed by Okechukwu Nwafor, a taxpayer.

I Picked An Igbo Catholic As My Chief Security Officer—Shettima

The “Vice-President-Elect”, Kashim Shettima, has said that he was a child of necessity, while allying claims that he and his principal, Bola Tinubu, have an agenda to islamise Nigeria.

“I was a child of necessity, there is no Islamisation agenda,” he said, adding that “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a Muslim who is married to a Christian, not only a Christian but a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God”.

SaharaReporters reports that Tinubu a former governor of Lagos State South West Nigeria is of Muslim faith.

His running mate and former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima is also of a Muslim faith from the North Eastern Nigeria.

PDP using social media to bully judges – Supreme Court

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is using the social media to bully and terrorise justices, the Supreme Court has alleged.

Justice of the Supreme Court, Inyang Okoro made this allegation on Friday, while delivering judgment in an appeal filed by the PDP seeking to void the election of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the grounds that his running mate, Kashim Shettima, was guilty of double nomination.

The five-member panel of the apex court dismissed the appeal and held that the appellant had no locus standi to institute the suit.

Okoro held that the appellant tried to mislead the apex court by claiming that the lower court found that there was indeed a double nomination.
