The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has firmly denied rumours that President Bola Tinubu has sacked him from office, describing the reports as fake, baseless, and the handiwork of mischief makers.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Director of Press and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume stated that the President “has no intention” of removing him from his position.
“The information is entirely false, misleading, and lacks any basis in fact, as Mr President has no any intention of doing so,” the statement read.

The SGF further slammed the rumour as a deliberate fabrication meant to mislead the public.

“It is a figment of the imagination of mischief makers who are out there to disinform and misinform the innocent public,” he added.
Akume stressed that he continues to enjoy the full confidence of President Tinubu, who believes in his capacity to drive the administration’s agenda.
“President Tinubu reposes unwavering confidence in the capacity of the SGF to discharge his statutory obligations in formulating and implementing policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement noted.
He also urged media platforms and the public to verify information before spreading it, warning that false narratives undermine institutional integrity.
“Spreading unverified or intentionally false narratives not only undermines public trust but also poses a threat to the integrity of our institutions,” Imohiosen cautioned.
Reaffirming his position, the SGF’s office reiterated, “Therefore, Senator Dr. George Akume CON remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
The clarification aligns with an earlier statement by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who also dismissed the rumour.
