Signs That Your Child Is Infected With Chickenpox

Chickenpox, also called varicella, is characterized by itchy red blisters that appear all over the body. A virus causes this condition. It often affects children, and was so common it was considered a childhood rite of passage. An itchy rash is the most common symptom of chickenpox. The infection will have to be in your body for around seven to 21 days before the rash and other symptoms develop. You start to be contagious to those around you up to 48 hours before the skin rash starts to occur.

According to Healthline, the following are the signs of chickenpox in children:

1. Severe fever

2. Fatigue

3. Headache.

4. A stomachache that lasts for one or two days.

5. A skin rash that is very itchy and looks like many small blisters.

6. Bumps filled with a liquid that looks like milky water.

Transmission

1. Coming in contact with someone who has chickenpox.

2. Breathing air from an infected person who sneezes or coughs.

3. Coming in contact with fluids from an infected child’s eyes, nose or mouth.

If you think you or your child might have chickenpox, consult your doctor. He or she usually can diagnose chickenpox by examining the rash and considering other symptoms. Your doctor can also prescribe medications to lessen the severity of chickenpox and treat complications, if necessary.
