Barcelona have rekindled their interest in Ajax left-back Nicholas Tagliafico

This summer, the 29-year-old Argentina international could be available for as little as £4.3 million (€5 million).

He only has a year left on his contract, and Barcelona has been tracking him throughout multiple transfer windows.

And, in a summer when Barcelona is struggling financially, he is likely to present a more affordable option than primary target Marcos Alonso.

They will face competition for Tagliafico from other Champions League clubs, Lyon.

Nottingham Forest and Brighton have both made inquiries, but the player is determined to play in the Champions League.

If another Champions League club does not complete a deal for him, he is more likely to see out his contract at Ajax.

Atletico Madrid is another club that has been keeping an eye on his progress in recent seasons.

Tagliafico has been looking for a new challenge for a while now, but he has remained respectful of Ajax’s desire to keep him.

Alonso could be provided with that opportunity by Barcelona, as Chelsea are unlikely to let Alonso leave, despite the fact that he has a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
