Following the explosive news that the Supreme Court has a draft to potentially overturn the historic abortion rights law Roe v. Wade, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts officially confirmed that the draft was authentic. The Supreme Court Chief Justice also announced that a full investigation is now underway involving the FBI and the CIA to find out who leaked the highly confidential information.
Additionally, he also made it clear that the draft is NOT a final decision and the formal outcome regarding the future of Roe v. Wade has not been determined, as the official decision will not be decided until June.
In his full statement from the Supreme Court, Roberts said:
“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. The work of the Court will not be affected in any way.
We at the Court are blessed to have a workforce – permanent employees and law clerks alike – intensely loyal to the institution and dedicated to the rule of law. Court employees have an exemplary and important tradition of respecting the confidentiality of the judicial process and upholding the trust of the Court. This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here.”
While further speaking about the leaked information, Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts released an additional statement where he described the leak as a “singular and egregious breach” of trust—and defended the court’s workforce and integrity, saying this will not undermine its operation.
