The suspect with the narcotics

A driver of the Volta Regional Health Directorate, Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, is in the custody of the Volta Regional Police Command following his arrest for allegedly transporting substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a vehicle belonging to the Ghana Health Service.

The driver was said to have been arrested by police officers in an intelligence-led operation on Friday, January 23, 2026.

The Volta Regional Health Directorate, in a statement signed by the Regional Director of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, confirmed the arrest after the matter had been brought to the attention of Transport Unit of the Directorate.

“Upon receiving this information, Management dispatched a team to the Regional Police Headquarters to follow up on the matter. The incident was confirmed by the police, and the driver is currently in police custody assisting with investigations,” the statement said.

According to the statement, while the Ghana Police Service continues with its investigations, the Regional Health Directorate has also initiated processes to constitute a Committee of Enquiry to independently investigate the incident.

“Additionally, measures are being put in place to strengthen monitoring and tracking of all official vehicles to prevent the recurrence of such incidents,” the statement noted.

It added that the Volta Regional Health Directorate remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the delivery of health services.
