Renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has joined the nation in mourning the passing of legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, whose death was announced on January 20, 2026, after a long battle with illness.

Taking to his X handle on January 21, Sarkodie shared a heartfelt tribute, writing: “RIP wofa Yaw Sarpong … Thank you for strengthening our faith in the almighty… may he keep you safe.”

Yaw Sarpong, celebrated for timeless hits like “Mesan Aba” and “Wo Haw Ne Sen,” was a foundational pillar of Ghana’s contemporary gospel music scene.

For decades, his powerful vocals and spiritually uplifting lyrics provided the soundtrack for worship in countless homes and churches across the country and the diaspora.

His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, colleagues and political figures across Ghana, all celebrating his profound legacy.

He is remembered not only as a musical icon but also as a devoted man of faith whose work transcended generations.

Yaw Sarpong is survived by his wife and their children. The family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in the coming days.
