The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom, following the enrolment of 1,477 Nigerians, as the agency moves to address passport-related challenges among Nigerians in the country.
The intervention exercise, being conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria High Commission in London, covers several cities across the UK, including Manchester, London, Cardiff and Aberdeen.
According to the NIS, the exercise is designed to make passport services more accessible to Nigerians in the UK and reduce the difficulties associated with travelling to designated centres for enrolment and processing.
The Nigeria High Commission said the Manchester exercise is scheduled for September 7 to 21, while the London intervention will run from September 7 to October 3. The exercise will also hold in Cardiff and Aberdeen from September 21 to 26.
Applicants are required to attend with their passport application form, payment receipt, appointment slip and old passport booklet for renewals, reissues or changes of data.
The High Commission also stated that applicants with lost, misplaced or damaged passports would be required to pay the applicable fee for the service.
The intervention follows the NIS’s deployment of a special passport team to the UK to provide on-the-spot enrolment and processing services in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission.
The exercise is expected to ease access to Nigerian passport services for citizens across the UK and help address backlogs and other challenges affecting applicants.
