In Ghana, New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship aspirant Boakye Agyarko has completed the first stage of his campaign tour across all 16 regions of the country. He held his final meetings in the Greater Accra Region and said he intends to strengthen the party’s electoral position ahead of the 2028 general election, MyJoyOnline reports.

Regaining parliamentary seats

According to Agyarko, regaining parliamentary seats lost by the party is important for restoring the NPP’s electoral potential. He linked this to creating conditions to support the presidential ambitions of former Ghanaian Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 election.

Agyarko called Greater Accra crucial to the NPP’s efforts to return to power. In his view, the party must develop separate strategies for each constituency rather than rely on general campaign messages. He explained this by the differing demographic and political characteristics of constituencies in the region, which require an understanding of local issues and targeted approaches.

Support for party structures

The candidate also presented a programme to support party officials, providing for training, strengthening their capacity, as well as timely logistical and operational support. According to him, resources should be distributed according to the needs of specific constituencies and provided on time so that local leaders can work effectively.

Agyarko stressed that political slogans alone are insufficient for victory in Greater Accra: local knowledge, trained party workers, sufficient resources and strategies for individual constituencies are needed. He thanked NPP regional and constituency leaders for the reception and approval he received during the campaign tour.
