In Kumasi, Ghana, Paul Afoko, a candidate for the position of national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), dismissed polls on the party leadership election. He said that the only meaningful indicator of support was the delegates’ vote scheduled for October 3.

Poll data

According to MyJoyOnline, a Global InfoAnalytics survey showed that former NPP General Secretary John Boadu was leading among the contenders. The poll, conducted on August 20, 2026, showed that Boadu was supported by 27% of NPP voters. Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko had 15%, while Afoko had 10%.

Afoko’s position

Afoko spoke with journalists during a thanksgiving service for newly elected Ashanti regional executives. The event was held at Gracefields Chapel in the Ngyiaso constituency.

According to the candidate, his meetings with delegates in various districts have strengthened his confidence in his campaign. Afoko said that his message resonates with the delegates he has spoken to. At the same time, he expressed skepticism about polls intended to assess voter preferences, since, in his view, it is impossible to know for certain whether respondents are answering truthfully.
