Spokesperson for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Pius Enam Hadzide, has dismissed claims that efforts are underway to bring former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko into the party’s national leadership to frustrate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and create a pathway for Acheampong to pursue the NPP’s presidential candidacy in 2032.
Hadzide in a statement on August 27, 2026, described the allegation, attributed to Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah on pro-NDC Onua TV, as “reckless, divisive and completely untrue.”
He has cautioned individuals seeking to demonstrate their loyalty to Dr Bawumia through speculation and attacks on other members of the party, saying such conduct does not serve the interests of the NPP.
He stressed that the party’s 2028 presidential contest was settled on January 31, 2026 and urged party leaders, communicators and activists to focus on winning the 2028 presidential election and securing a parliamentary majority.
“Our focus must therefore remain firmly on winning the 2028 presidential election and securing a parliamentary majority,” he said.
Hadzide called on members of the NPP to channel their energies into rebuilding the party, uniting supporters and preparing for the 2028 elections.
He further argued that genuine support for Dr Bawumia’s presidential bid should be demonstrated through constructive action rather than what he described as malicious claims, needless attacks and speculation about the ambitions of other party members.

He also dismissed suggestions that Acheampong is positioning himself for a future presidential contest, insisting that he has no interest in what he described as “premature succession politics.”
“The NPP needs unity, discipline and focus, not internal mudslinging,” Hadzide stated.
