Tema, June 6, GNA – Some residents of Tema have benefited from a free health screening exercise organised by Faith Abound for All, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), as part of its annual outreach programme aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community.
The NGO focuses on assisting vulnerable groups through health, welfare, and humanitarian interventions to improve lives and promote social inclusion.
The event, held in collaboration with Mehak Ghana Limited, offered a range of free health services, including eye screening, dental care, laboratory tests, and general medical consultations.
Participants also benefited from free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal services.
Speaking at the event, Ms Janet Ama Amoabeng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Faith Abound for All, said the initiative was designed to support individuals who were unable to access regular healthcare due to financial constraints.
“We have noticed that many people in our communities are vulnerable and do not have the resources to visit the hospital regularly every year. We set aside a day to provide free health screening so they can receive the care they need,” she stated.
Ms Amoabeng noted that more than 120 people had been screened by midday, expressing optimism that the number would exceed 300 by the end of the exercise.
She recounted a past case where a beneficiary’s high blood pressure condition was detected during a similar exercise, enabling timely medical intervention that significantly improved her health.
Beyond healthcare services, beneficiaries were served free meals throughout the day. Early arrivals were offered breakfast comprising rice water, porridge, oats, and bread, while lunch included local dishes such as banku, kenkey, kokonte, and rice. Participants also received uncooked rice and mosquito nets to take home.
Ms Amoabeng expressed appreciation to partner institutions, including Tema Christian Eye Centre, Tema General Hospital, Empat-Caiquo Medical Centre, and NHIS Tema officials, for their support in delivering the services.
She also commended Colgate for donating oral care products and providing education on proper dental hygiene.
She further appealed to corporate organisations, philanthropists, and other NGOs to support similar initiatives to help expand healthcare access to more communities.
Ms Amoabeng encouraged individuals and organisations to contribute to improving the welfare of the less privileged, emphasising that even small acts of kindness could make a meaningful impact.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the organisers for the initiative.
Madam Regina Lartey said the free medication she received would help improve her health while reducing the financial burden of accessing healthcare.
Madam Salamatu Mohammed also commended the organisers for bringing healthcare services closer to residents and urged them to sustain such interventions.
