Takoradi, May 29, GNA – Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, the General Manager (GM) of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has led a delegation to inspect progress on the ongoing renovation works on the Western Regional Office of the Agency in Takoradi.

The project, undertaken by Brison Construction, formed part of efforts to modernise and enhance the operational efficiency for staff in the region.

It is under a Post COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Programme (PSDPEP), a five-year initiative, of which the GNA is part of other organisations as beneficiaries.

The PSDPEP is being funded from a total grant facility of $31.34 million, which comprises $28.5 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB), and $2.8 million from the Ghana Government.

The General Manager was accompanied by a team of technocrats from the Social Investment Fund (SIF), implementing agency of the PSDPEP, and the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), consultants for the renovation project.

Mr Owusu during the inspection expressed satisfaction at progress of work done so far and commended the contractor for working according to specifications.

He said the renovation of the office was part of strategic investments to provide a conducive working environment for staff to help position the GNA to meet demands of modern journalism.

He said: “I am very much impressed about the work done so far, and I must say that the GNA Board will see how far progress has gone, because I know we are much eager to come back to commission the project.”

Mr Harrison Addo, an Engineer at Brison Construction Limited, who led the team for the inspection said work was about 60 per cent complete and assured that they would work assiduously to ensure timely completion of the entire project.

He said the scope of work included the rewiring of electrical systems, replacement of louvre blades and frames, paintings, rehabilitation of washrooms, provision of water system, and plumbing works and the provision of a disability friendly walkway among others.

Mrs Justina Paaga, the Western Regional Manager of GNA, thanked the General Manager and his team for the visit, and expressed gratitude to the Agency’s management for giving a face-lift to the Takoradi office.

She said the project when completed would provide a safe working environment for staff to deliver on their mandates by providing accurate and unbiased news stories for nation building.

Similar works are ongoing at Agency’s Head Office in Accra, Tema, and Tamale offices.
