Sod has been cut for the construction of a 24-hour model market aimed at boosting economic opportunities and creating sustainable jobs for the Ejura municipality.

The project, which is being undertaken as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing “Resetting Agenda” with lockable stores and open stalls, would also have essential facilities, including a police station, fire station, clinic, pharmacies, model school, restaurants, women’s bank, warehouse and other key amenities to support round-the-clock commercial activities.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, who, together with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejura Sekyedumase, Rafiu Adams Seidu, cut the sod for the commencement of the project, said the initiative was part of the government’s broader vision to establish similar facilities across all districts to drive the 24-hour economy agenda and stimulate local economic growth.

Dr Amoakohene expressed appreciation to President Mahama for the initiative, describing it as transformative and commended the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs for his leadership and commitment to its implementation.

He commended the collaborative efforts of the Member of Parliament (MP), Mohammed Bawah Bariamah, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for their continued contribution to the development of the municipality.

Co-operation

Dr Amoakohene urged the chiefs and people of the area to cooperate to enable the contractor to speed up and complete the project on time.

The MCE for Ejura Sekyedumase, Mr Seidu, said with the help of the chiefs and the MP, the Assembly had been able to undertake numerous projects through the District Assembly’s Common Fund and legacy projects.

He mentioned, for instance, the construction of five Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, classroom blocks and places of convenience toilet facilities, refuse evacuation exercises and the drilling of 20 mechanised boreholes, among others, all at various stages of completion.

The Chief of Ejura, Barima Osei Hwedie II, who was the chairperson for the event, praised the government, the MP and the MCE for their collaborative efforts, noting that their hard work was clearly reflected in the projects completed during their relatively short time in office.

He pledged the traditional council’s readiness to support the government by providing land for developmental projects in the Ejura Sekyedumase municipality.
