Heavy rain, strong winds expected in THESE provinces

Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service is warning that severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, hail, and strong winds, which may lead to flooding, are expected in three provinces.

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

A. Yellow Level 4 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms leading to flooding of low-lying areas, susceptible roads and bridges as well as strong, damaging winds and hail, resulting in damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock expected over the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

B. Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of low-lying areas, susceptible roads and bridges as well as strong damaging winds and hail, resulting in localised damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock expected over the north-eastern parts Northern Cape, central parts and eastern parts of Free State as well as in places over KwaZulu-Natal, except in the north-east.

C. Yellow Level 1 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of low-lying areas, susceptible roads and bridges as well as strong damaging winds and hail, resulting in localised damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock expected over the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions along the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal.

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Moderate

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the escarpment, where morning fog patches are expected. It will be hot over the Lowveld.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west.

Free State

In Free State, cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the north-east.

Northern Cape

The day will start fine in the extreme west with morning fog patches along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in east where it will be cloudy. It will be cool in the extreme south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly, becoming fresh southwesterly in the north from the afternoon.

Western Cape

Cloudy over the western parts in the morning with light early morning rain in the south-west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm but fine over the central and eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be Light north-westerly along the south-west coast in the morning, otherwise light to moderate south-westerly to westerly but fresh to strong in places along the south coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, but cool in places along the coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

The Eastern half: The day will start partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south- westerly

KwaZulu-Natal

Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong northerly to north-easterly, becoming southerly to south-westerly south of Durban in the afternoon, spreading north.
