According to him, he has no regrets over the decision to stick to Otto Addo despite the Black Stars failure to qualify for the most prestigious tournament in Africa.
After Ghana had shown a poor performance in Ivory Coast – 2023 Africa Cup of Nations failing to go past the Group stage followed with a shocker- this time did not secure a ticket to the 2025 edition held in Morocco Otto Addo’s job was safe.
The Black Stars for the first time in 20 years, failed to show up at the tournament and during this period Otto Addo was the gaffer supervising. Several Ghanaians called sack for Otto Addo but Kurt Okraku declined and still had him heading affairs as Black Stars coach.
This surprisedly handed Ghana a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving Black Stars their fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
Following the aforementioned, GFA boss Kurt Okraku says he does not regret maintaining Otto Addo after the AFCON failure.
“I never believed that I had to let the coach go at that time. And we never believed, as an ExCo, that we had to let the coach go at that time. And we stay with that position,” he told 3Sports.
“We’ve all done football at various levels, and sometimes there are auxiliary reasons why certain decisions have to be taken or not to be taken. Some of these reasons are not available to a lot of people.
“But I look back, and I’m happy that we took that decision. At the end, we qualified for the Mundial with the same gaffer, and I don’t regret it at all.”
Despite qualifying the team to do the 2026 World Cup, Otto Addo was eventually sacked following the team’s five-game losing streak against Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Austria and Germany.
