An Accra-based print and branding company has become one of the first businesses on the continent to deploy Canon’s latest wide-format production technology, signalling growing appetite for premium print capabilities within Ghana’s expanding visual communications sector.
Chroma Digital Solutions, headquartered on Mensah Saba Road in Accra, has installed the Canon Colorado M5W wide-format printer, a high-performance system built around Canon’s UVgel technology that enables large-scale outdoor signage, retail displays, interior décor, and specialised print applications on a single platform.
The installation, announced Thursday by Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA), positions Chroma Digital Solutions among the earliest adopters of the Colorado M5W in Africa, at a time when Ghana’s retail market, valued at approximately US$32 billion in 2023, is forecast to reach US$54 billion by 2031.
Kwame Owusu-Kwarteng, Operations Manager at Chroma Digital Solutions, said the technology addresses what clients increasingly demand from service providers. “Investing in the Canon Colorado M5W enables us to deliver all of this on one platform,” he said, noting that the system’s UVgel ink produces prints built to withstand Ghana’s heat and intense sunlight while also supporting white ink, mixed matte-and-gloss finishes, and texture printing.
Tushar Vashnavi, Business Unit Director for Business-to-Business (B2B) at CCNA, described Ghana as one of West Africa’s most dynamic visual communications markets, adding that print businesses are responding by investing in technologies that allow them to diversify services and operate more competitively.
Outdoor advertising, a primary end market for large-format printing, generates around US$60 million annually in Ghana, accounting for more than 20 percent of total advertising expenditure, underscoring the commercial case for advanced production investment.
