Latest Opinion Poll Shows Who Would Win the Presidential Elections if Elections were Held Today.
President William Ruto has emerged as the most preferred presidential candidate in a new opinion poll ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election, with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna occupying the second and third positions respectively.
The survey, conducted by Swiss Poll International, places Ruto at 40.2 per cent, giving him the highest individual support among the politicians included in the research.
Kalonzo Musyoka follows with 19.7 per cent, while Sifuna records 17.6 per cent, highlighting the competition among opposition figures as political leaders position themselves ahead of the next general election.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua comes fourth with 7.5 per cent, followed by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who attracts 6.0 per cent. Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro follows with 4.5 per cent.
Meanwhile, 3.3 per cent of respondents said they were undecided about their preferred presidential candidate, while other candidates collectively accounted for 1.2 per cent.
The findings place Ruto ahead of the individual opposition figures included in the survey. However, the results also highlight the different levels of support among leaders seeking to shape the opposition’s political direction.
Kalonzo and Sifuna’s performance comes amid ongoing discussions about opposition leadership, possible political alliances and the prospect of presenting a joint candidate against the incumbent president.
Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), is also seeking to expand his political influence, particularly in the Mount Kenya region. Meanwhile, Sifuna has attracted attention through the Linda Mwananchi political movement.
According to reports on the survey, Swiss Poll International interviewed 6,146 respondents between October 19 and 22, 2026. The reported margin of error was plus or minus 1.8 percentage points.
The poll offers a snapshot of presidential preferences at the time of the survey, rather than a prediction of the final election outcome. Political alliances, party nominations and changing voter priorities could influence the race before Kenyans go to the polls in 2027.
