Gachagua Takes Fresh Swipe at Ruto Over Milk Shortage and Rising Beef Prices

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticised the government over the challenges facing Kenya’s dairy farming sector, accusing the administration of failing to support farmers and protect the livestock industry.

Gachagua raised concerns about the state of dairy farming, saying farmers were struggling despite the important role they play in supplying milk and other livestock products to the country.

He also questioned the management of the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC), claiming that the institution had been ruined under the current administration. He linked his criticism to the difficulties facing milk producers and the rising cost of beef.

The former Deputy President further claimed that milk had become scarce in the country, despite many Kenyans depending on dairy farming for their livelihoods. He argued that more needed to be done to improve milk production and ensure farmers benefit from their work.

Gachagua also criticised what he described as empty promises to young people. He took issue with leaders encouraging the youth to venture into buffalo farming while, in his view, failing to address the problems affecting traditional livestock farming.

His remarks have brought attention to the challenges facing farmers, including high production costs, access to markets and the prices they receive for their products.

Dairy farming remains an important part of Kenya’s agricultural sector, providing income for many households and supporting the country’s milk supply. The livestock industry also contributes to employment and food production.

Gachagua’s latest criticism adds to the political debate over the government’s handling of agriculture and its efforts to improve the lives of farmers. His comments are likely to draw reactions from leaders and Kenyans who depend on livestock farming.
