“Ndindi Nyoro Is a Shylock Broker” Ruto Fires Back at MP Over Kenya Pipeline Shares

President William Ruto has taken a swipe at Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro amid an ongoing dispute over the sale of shares in the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC).

In a video circulating on social media, Ruto is heard accusing Nyoro of acting as a broker for shylock lenders and suggesting that the lawmaker’s criticism of the share transactions would not succeed.

“Ndindi Nyoro ni broker wa shylock, umezoea kutapeli Wakenya lakini this time utaonea shares za Kenya Pipeline kwa Viusasa,” Ruto said in the clip, using Swahili to challenge the legislator over the controversial issue.

The remarks come amid growing political debate over the transfer of billions of Kenya Pipeline shares from public institutions to a private investor.

Nyoro has questioned the circumstances surrounding the transaction, alleging that public institutions were pressured to purchase shares during the company’s initial public offering before later being directed to sell them.

The Kiharu MP has also claimed that the transaction could form part of a wider plan to give private investors majority control of the strategic petroleum company.

The disputed transaction involved approximately 4.5 billion shares valued at about KSh42 billion, representing nearly a quarter of the company’s ownership.

President Ruto, however, has defended the sale, arguing that private investment can help mobilise funds for major infrastructure projects and strengthen the economy.

The disagreement has attracted public attention because Kenya Pipeline plays an important role in transporting petroleum products across the country and to neighbouring states.

The debate has also raised questions about transparency, the interests of public institutions and the protection of pensioners’ investments.

Nyoro’s allegations against the government remain contested, and the claims have not all been independently established.

Ruto’s latest remarks add another political dimension to the dispute, which has increasingly featured criticism of the government’s handling of strategic public assets.

As the exchange continues, attention is likely to remain on the details of the share sale, the identity and interests of the investor, and whether the government will provide further information about the transaction.

The controversy is expected to remain a subject of public and political discussion as Kenyans seek clarity on the future ownership of the Kenya Pipeline Company.
