President Ruto Slams Alleged Election Result Live Streaming Ban, Terms it Propaganda
President William Ruto has dismissed ongoing claims that the government plans to ban the live streaming of election results in Kenya. Speaking on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during an interdenominational church service at Kasina in Mwingi, Kitui County, the Head of State termed the allegations as pure propaganda, fake news, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public ahead of the upcoming General Election.
“They want to start creating another propaganda around the election laws that live streaming has been banned,” the President stated. “Propaganda, useless, fake news. Why would anybody want to stop live streaming of results? Results are a right of Kenyans. The sooner Kenyans get to know the results of an election, the better for our nation,” Ruto said.
The argument started after some opposition leaders and government critics claimed that the state was secretly trying to change election laws. They alleged that the government wanted to stop the broadcasting results live directly from individual polling stations, which they said would ruin transparency of the elections.
Several government-allied leaders, including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, strongly refuted the claims as propaganda. Ichung’wah stated that the livestreaming of results has not been banned or interfered with in the proposed amendments, clarifying that provisions under Section 39 of the Elections Act remain unchanged to protect transparency.
The controversy centers on the Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2024, which seeks to introduce structural updates to electoral administration. Having recently been passed with amendments by the National Assembly, the Bill is being returned to the Senate for further consideration under the standard legislative process.
As the legislative debate over election management continues in Parliament, President Ruto’s latest stance signals a clear directive to reassure the electorate that transparency safeguards will remain intact to deliver a credible process.
