According to Kechwo, he contacted Ngeno at around 12:04 pm that day. Their conversation lasted only 30 seconds, during which Ngeno relayed a simple but pointed message.
“Our last conversation at 12:04. We only spoke for 30 seconds, and he only told me, ‘Go to Mara Rianta, let me find you there, we head to Mt Elgon,” Kechwo said.
Fate intervened when Kechwo, rushing to meet Ngeno, faced an unexpected delay. The motorbike he was riding suffered a puncture, which delayed him by just five minutes, enough for the helicopter to depart without him.
“The bike that was carrying me got a puncture past Mpata and I missed the flight by less than five minutes. I thank God for giving me a second chance to live,” he shared.
In a later post, Kechwo reflected on the moment, recalling how the rider transporting him had remarked that the delay might hold some meaning, words he had not fully understood until after the tragedy.
