John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana
President John Dramani Mahama will travel to Arusha, Tanzania, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the opening of the 2026 judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The ceremony, scheduled for Monday, March 2, will also mark the 20th anniversary of the court, which was established to safeguard human and peoples’ rights across Africa. The opening theme for the judicial year is “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa.”

This event will be historic, as it marks the first time a sitting President of Ghana has been invited to address the African Union Court. During his stay, President Mahama is expected to hold bilateral talks with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Following the opening programme, President Mahama will depart Arusha, with the Vice President assuming the role of Acting President in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications.
