During the State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, 2026, former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, was seen exchanging pleasantries with dignitaries in Parliament.

Shortly after Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, concluded his interactions and attempted to leave the chamber, a group of NPP Members of Parliament surrounded him in a show of support.

Among them were the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, Nana Ayeh Asafo-Adjei and the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, along with other colleagues.

The MPs began chanting a song titled “Yɛpɛ NAPO,” which translates to “We want NAPO,” in apparent endorsement of him as the running mate to the NPP’s 2028 presidential flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.

Amid the chants, some MPs were also heard shouting, “No change, we want NAPO.”

Dr Opoku Prempeh appeared surprised by the sudden show of support and seemed momentarily uncomfortable as he attempted to make his way through the group while they continued chanting.

He partnered Dr Bawumia in the 2024 general elections but lost the election to President John Dramani Mahama and his Vice president Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang.
