Who Gave You The Right To Demand Tax, I Will Not Pay — Hairdresser Clashes With Assembly Taskforce

Drama unfolded at Adenta in the Greater Accra Region after a female hairdresser engaged members of the Adenta Municipal Assembly’s revenue taskforce in a heated confrontation over tax payment.

According to reports, the incident happened when revenue collectors from the Koose Zonal Council stormed the woman’s hairdressing shop over her alleged failure to pay her taxes.

The taskforce members reportedly explained that they had earlier served the shop owner with a notice, directing her to visit their office and settle her tax obligations.

But after she allegedly failed to comply with the notice, the collectors decided to visit her shop to enforce payment and lock the premises.

Their visit, however, turned into a heated exchange of words.

In a video of the incident, the visibly angry hairdresser is heard challenging the taskforce members over their authority to demand taxes from her, while insisting that she would not pay.

“Me, I cannot pay your taxes. If I have to pay my tax, I cannot pay. You are not the one to tell me to pay my tax,” she angrily declared.

She further questioned the authority of the revenue collectors and warned them against touching her, repeatedly demanding that they leave her alone.

The confrontation has since sparked debate on social media, with some Ghanaians supporting the hairdresser, while others say paying tax is a duty every business owner must fulfil.

The question now is: was the Assembly right to storm her shop, or did they go too far?

One thing is clear — the woman was not ready to pay, and she was not ready to keep quiet.
