Speaker Bagbin Is a Disgrace – NPP Man Fires Back After Abu Jinapor Was Thrown Out of Parliament
A fierce political quarrel has broken out in Parliament after the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, ordered the Damongo MP, Hon. Abu Jinapor, to leave the chamber. The Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Gordon Asare Bediako, has hit back hard, calling the Speaker a “disgrace” for the way he handled the situation. For ordinary Ghanaians, the message is simple: the NPP believes the Speaker acted wrongly, and they are not hiding their anger.
According to Mr. Asare Bediako, the NPP has now been proven right in its claims that the Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is involved in the sale of diplomatic passports. He says the party raised this issue long ago, and events are now confirming what they said. This is the heart of the fight: the NPP says it warned the country, and now it wants answers.
He went further, claiming that information available to them shows the Foreign Affairs Minister has dismissed the Director of Passports over the alleged sale of diplomatic passports. If true, this is a serious development, because it suggests something wrong really did happen inside the passport office. The NPP is using this to say, “We told you so,” and to push for a full investigation.
But Mr. Asare Bediako’s main complaint is about how the Speaker handled the matter. He argues that instead of ordering Abu Jinapor out of the chamber, the Speaker should have set up a committee to properly investigate the alleged sale of diplomatic passports. In his view, throwing an MP out does not solve the problem—it only buries it, and that is why he is calling the Speaker’s action a disgrace.
For the ordinary person watching from home, the fight comes down to one question: should Parliament investigate the passport scandal properly, or should it simply silence the person asking questions? The NPP says the Speaker chose the wrong path, and they are demanding a real probe. Whether Parliament listens or not, this is a fight that is far from over.
