‘We will be bleeding from our noses if we allow Mahama to go for a third term’ – Dome market woman

‘We will be bleeding from our noses if we allow Mahama to go for a third term’ – Dome market woman

According to report by Thebbcghana on Saturday 7, November 2026, a market woman at Dome in the Greater Accra Region has openly expressed her dissatisfaction with the economic conditions under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, insisting that traders are struggling to survive and would not support calls for the President to seek a third term in office.

In an interview, the trader explained that the current economic situation has become increasingly difficult for market women, particularly those who depend on daily sales to sustain their businesses and provide for their families. According to her, the lack of customers and declining purchasing power have made it extremely challenging for traders to remain financially stable.

She acknowledged that Ghanaians also complained about the high cost of living during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. However, she argued that there was a noticeable difference between the two periods, claiming that although prices were high under the previous government, consumers still had some purchasing power to buy goods.

The woman maintained that the situation has become more difficult under the current administration because customers are increasingly unable to afford basic commodities, leaving traders with little or no sales.

She also questioned government claims about reductions in the prices of certain goods, arguing that the situation being experienced by traders at the market does not reflect such assurances.

To demonstrate the difficulties facing traders, she pointed to plantains displayed for sale, which she said were deteriorating because of poor patronage and the absence of customers. She explained that perishable goods are particularly difficult to manage when traders are unable to sell them quickly, resulting in financial losses.

The market woman further disclosed that some traders have been forced to borrow money to purchase goods for resale. However, when customers fail to patronise their products, they are left struggling to repay their loans, pushing them deeper into debt.

Expressing her position on the calls for President Mahama to seek another term beyond his current tenure, she warned that such an arrangement would be unacceptable to her, insisting that traders have yet to experience the economic relief they expected.

Her comments highlight the concerns of some market operators over the cost of doing business, declining customer patronage and the difficulties associated with sustaining small-scale trading activities.

While her views represent her personal assessment of the economic situation, they add to the ongoing public discussion about the government’s economic performance and the impact of its policies on ordinary Ghanaians.
