NDC Communicator Fires Back at Sam George, Tells Him What He Should Be Fixing Instead
Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George is facing another round of criticism over his recent confrontation with a military officer, with an NDC communicator urging him to pay more attention to Ghana’s poor internet service instead of allowing the military dispute to dominate his attention.
The criticism comes at a time when Sam George is under public scrutiny following his strong comments about soldiers who were involved in an operation in his Ningo-Prampram constituency.
The NDC communicator’s message raises a wider question about the minister’s priorities, especially as Ghanaians continue to expect improvements in internet access, service quality and the cost of digital services.
Sam George, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, recently confronted a military officer identified as Lieutenant Albert Goh. The minister accused the officer and other soldiers of seizing trucks belonging to residents without proper legal authority and mistreating some people during an operation at a sand-winning site.
He called on the Chief of Defence Staff to take disciplinary action against the officer. His comments attracted criticism from some people who believed he should have handled the matter through the proper military channels rather than confronting the officer publicly.
However, the minister maintained that he was speaking up for his constituents, who had complained about the conduct of the soldiers.
The disagreement later led to a meeting between Sam George, the Defence Minister, the Chief of Defence Staff and the three service commanders. During the meeting, the minister explained that his comments were not intended as an attack on the Ghana Armed Forces as an institution.
He said his concern was the conduct of the personnel involved and the harm residents had suffered. He also welcomed the Chief of Defence Staff’s commitment to investigate the incident and make the findings public. <Cite refs={[“turn809589search0″,”turn809589search9″,”turn809589search10”]}/>
But the latest criticism from the NDC communicator suggests that some people within the governing party would rather see the minister concentrate on issues directly connected to his ministry.
Poor internet service remains a concern for many users, businesses and students who depend on reliable connections for their daily activities. A minister responsible for communications and digital technology is naturally expected to address such challenges and show clear progress.
Still, the concerns raised by Sam George over the alleged treatment of residents should not simply be ignored. Allegations of abuse by security personnel deserve proper investigation, just as public officials must be careful in how they address serving military officers.
