NLC Warns Kiambu Road Landowners as Government Begins Expansion Project

Landowners along the Muthaiga-Kiambu road are set to lose portions of their property, after the government announced plans to acquire 11 parcels for a Ksh38 billion road expansion project.

In a notice dated Friday, November 6, the National Land Commission (NLC) said it intends to acquire the land on behalf of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) to facilitate the dualling of the Muthaiga-Kiambu-Numberi Road.

The Commission said the acquisition would be carried out under Section 110 of the Land Act, 2012, which provides for compulsory acquisition of land for public purposes.

Among the affected properties are parcels registered as 81/2, measuring 0.88 acres; 80/2, measuring 1.25 acres; and 7022/10, covering 0.21 acres.

Other parcels listed include 12826/2, measuring 10.85 acres; 5980/1, covering 4.67 acres; and 12855/26, measuring 1.09 acres.

The remaining properties are registered as 5989/186, measuring 0.06 acres; 5989/183, covering 0.15 acres; 5989/188, measuring 0.48 acres; 5918/14, covering 0.54 acres; and 4884/1, measuring 0.49 acres.

NLC has directed owners and other interested parties to visit its offices at Ardhi House in Nairobi to inspect the plans showing the specific sections of land earmarked for acquisition.

The maps are available at the Commission’s offices on the third floor, Room 305, along 1st Ngong Avenue.

The proposed expansion is expected to improve the Muthaiga-Kiambu route by providing additional road capacity along the busy corridor.

The acquisition process will allow KURA to secure the land required for the planned works, while affected property owners will be able to identify the portions included in the government’s notice.
