Major Blow to Kalonzo Musyoka as Former CS Dumps Wiper Days After Joining Party, Rejoins Ruto’s UDA

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has officially dumped Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement and rejoined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking another political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Jumwa’s decision comes barely three months after she abandoned UDA, citing political frustrations and alleged marginalisation following her dismissal from President Ruto’s Cabinet. Her latest move marks a significant reversal of her earlier political position.

In August 2026, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka welcomed the vocal Coast politician into his party, subsequently appointing her Deputy Party Leader. Her entry was viewed as an attempt to strengthen Wiper’s political influence across the Coast region.

During her brief stay in Wiper, Jumwa was reportedly positioning herself for the 2027 Kilifi gubernatorial contest, with the opposition outfit expected to provide her with a political platform to pursue her ambitions.

However, the former Malindi lawmaker has now formally tendered her resignation to the Wiper secretariat, bringing her short-lived political association with Kalonzo to an end and paving the way for her return to UDA.

Sources within UDA indicate that senior party officials had engaged Jumwa in reconciliation talks before her return. The discussions reportedly helped resolve differences that emerged following her departure from the ruling party.

Addressing supporters in Kilifi, Jumwa defended her decision, saying aligning herself with the national leadership was necessary to advance development initiatives and promote economic growth for residents of her home county.

Her return to UDA introduces another development in the ongoing political realignments as leaders reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Political parties are increasingly seeking influential figures to strengthen their regional networks.

Jumwa’s departure also marks a setback for Kalonzo’s efforts to expand Wiper’s presence along the Coast, while her return places her back in Ruto’s political camp as preparations for the next General Election intensify.
