NDC Communicator to Sam George: Focus on Poor Internet, Not Confronting Military Officers

A communicator for the National Democratic Congress has criticized Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, for confronting military officers instead of addressing internet-related issues in the country. According to the communicator, a high-tension electricity pole was at risk of collapsing due to sand-winning activities in the area, which prompted the military to intervene and deal with those responsible. He argued that the MP’s approach was disrespectful and undignified, and he condemned the behavior .

Speaking on TV XYZ, the communicator explained that the military officers were ordered to clear people from the system because the ECG high-tension lines with 66,000 volts were at risk of falling, which could have led to a blackout within the Akosombo area. He criticized Sam George for questioning the officers about who authorized them and for announcing a soldier’s service number and insulting him. The communicator stated that if he had been there, he would have replied to the MP, adding that Sam George spoke as if the country were under a military regime .

The NDC communicator further urged the Communications Minister to channel the same energy into engaging telecommunications companies to address concerns over data consumption and slow internet speeds. He noted that the collapse of the high-tension line would have affected the whole country, yet the MP was focusing on the military rather than the telecom issues. He added that data bundles do not last long and that the internet is a problem to the extent that it is difficult to download things in some locations, yet the minister can deal with the telcos on these matters .

The criticism follows an incident in which Sam George publicly confronted a military officer, Lieutenant Albert Goh, over an operation in his constituency that allegedly involved the seizure of trucks belonging to residents . The MP had called for the officer’s dismissal, describing his conduct as akin to armed robbery . However, the NDC communicator’s remarks shift the focus to what he considers a more pressing issue for the Communications Minister: the quality and affordability of internet services in Ghana.
