Regions to Expect Heavy Rainfall Starting Saturday Evening

Only Isiolo, Turkana and Kajiado are expected to stay dry between Friday, October 23, and Tuesday, October 27, as the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) forecasts rain in the remaining 44 counties.

According to the five-day outlook issued on October 21, thunderstorms are expected in 21 counties across western Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria basin.

They include West Pokot, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira. Most of the storms will hit in the afternoons.

Nandi, Kericho and Kakamega face thunderstorms on all five days, while Bungoma, Busia and Migori are likely to see them on four. Kericho, Kisii and Nyamira will get the heaviest conditions, with moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning on at least three days.

Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu will stay dry through Saturday before showers set in from Sunday. In northern and north-eastern Kenya, Mandera is forecast to receive moderate rain on Sunday and Monday, while Wajir, Garissa and Marsabit will see lighter falls from Monday.

Central and eastern counties, including Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga and Murang’a, can expect moderate showers mostly at night and in the afternoon from Sunday.

Nairobi will remain sunny until Sunday night, when light showers are expected to begin and continue through Monday and into Tuesday. The city’s daytime high will fall from 31°C on Friday to 29°C by Monday, with overnight lows of 15°C to 17°C.

Temperatures will vary widely across the country. Turkana will be the hottest, peaking at 38°C on Friday, Saturday and Monday, while Nyandarua will be the coldest, with a low of 8°C on Friday and Monday.

The KMSA advised that the five-day outlook should be read together with its daily 24-hour forecast, and that county-specific details are available from the offices of county directors of meteorological services.
