“Forgive me I did not know the Person I was Dealing with ” Gideon Moi to Baringo Residents.
KANU National Chairperson Gideon Moi has asked residents of Baringo County to forgive him for trusting President William Ruto’s promises and deciding not to contest last year’s senatorial by-election.
Moi made the appeal on Friday, October 23, during a meeting with representatives of Kalenjin sub-tribes, elders and opinion leaders at his Kabarak home.
The former Baringo senator used the meeting to reflect on his past political decisions while seeking the views of community leaders on his political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Moi acknowledged that his decision to stay out of the by-election had political consequences, prompting him to seek forgiveness from residents who may have felt disappointed by his choice.
His remarks could signal renewed efforts to rebuild his political support in Baringo County as political leaders begin positioning themselves for the next general election.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for Moi to engage influential community representatives on the direction he should take as he considers his next political move.
During the gathering, Moi accused President Ruto of targeting him and his family over their involvement in the Standard Group, which owns several media platforms in Kenya.
He alleged that the media company’s editorial independence was being used as a reason to exert political pressure on his family.
Moi questioned why his family appeared to be singled out, arguing that it was not the only shareholder in the media organisation.
His remarks introduced a new dimension to the political discussions, highlighting concerns about the relationship between media ownership, editorial independence and political influence.
The Standard Group has operated in Kenya’s media industry for decades, serving audiences through newspapers, television, radio and digital platforms.
Moi’s concerns come at a time when political alliances and relationships are expected to play a significant role in shaping the 2027 election campaigns.
His consultations with elders and opinion leaders could help him determine whether to return to elective politics or pursue a different political strategy.
Although he has not publicly announced his next political move, the meeting suggests that he is actively considering his options.
The coming months will reveal whether Moi can rebuild confidence among Baringo residents and establish a stronger political position ahead of the next general election.
